About Huzzle
At Huzzle, we connect exceptional talent with top opportunities at leading companies across the UK, US, Canada, Europe, and Australia. Our clients include fast-growing startups, digital agencies, SaaS companies, and tech-enabled businesses across industries such as MarTech, FinTech, EdTech, and eCommerce. Unlike traditional outsourcing agencies, we place you directly with innovative companies where you become a valued member of the team.
Job Summary
This is a rare 0β1 Founding Engineer opportunity to build a financial platform from the ground up within an already established and profitable ecosystem.
We are looking for an exceptionally strong, hands-on engineer with direct fintech experience who has previously built core banking, payments, ledger, cards, or money-movement infrastructure at an established fintech, neobank, or financial technology company.
This is not a management-first position. We need someone who still wants to architect systems, solve difficult technical problems, and write production code. You will work directly with the founders and an existing technical developer, taking significant ownership of the architecture, product, and technical direction.
As the platform scales, you will also have the opportunity to help shape and build the engineering team around you.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and build core financial infrastructure, including accounts, balances, ledgers, transaction state machines, and money-movement systems.
- Build KYC/KYB, onboarding, compliance, permissions, limits, and approval workflows.
- Design integrations with banking partners, card issuers, payment rails, FX providers, and other financial infrastructure partners.
- Develop provider-independent architecture that supports multiple banking and financial providers without vendor lock-in.
- Build secure, reliable APIs and financial data models capable of handling reconciliation, event processing, retries, and exception handling.
- Own technical problems end-to-end, from architecture and database design through implementation and production deployment.
- Work directly with the founders to translate product requirements and business constraints into scalable technical solutions.
- Help establish engineering standards, technology choices, and the long-term technical direction of the platform.
Requirements
- 3β8+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong backend or full-stack fundamentals.
- Direct experience building financial infrastructure within a fintech, neobank, payments company, or similar financial technology environment.
- Experience with core banking, payments, ledgers, cards, FX, reconciliation, KYC/KYB, or money movement.
- Proven experience building production-grade APIs and distributed systems.
- Strong database architecture and data-modeling skills.
- Experience with asynchronous workflows, queues, events, retries, idempotency, and transaction processing.
- Strong engineering judgment and product instincts, particularly when balancing speed, scalability, reliability, and correctness.
- Comfortable operating in a highly ambiguous 0β1 environment and taking significant ownership without requiring extensive direction.
- Natural initiative, creativity, and problem-solving ability.
- Highly hands-on and excited to continue writing production code rather than moving into a primarily managerial role.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience as a strong individual contributor, early engineer, founding engineer, or technical lead within a high-growth fintech.
- Background at companies such as Revolut, Wise, Monzo, N26, Nubank, Brex, Stripe, Plaid, Airwallex, Nium, Razorpay, Adyen, Checkout.com, PayPal, Column, Modern Treasury, or similar.
- Deep understanding of financial ledgers, reconciliation, transaction processing, or money-movement architecture.
- Experience integrating multiple banking, payment, card, or financial infrastructure providers.
- Familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements surrounding KYC/KYB and international financial services.
- Experience building multi-currency, FX, card issuing, or cross-border payments products.
- Previous experience helping build a product or engineering function from an early stage.
