We are specifically looking for candidates with experience examining or auditing the compliance of financial institutions or other regulated entities, rather than professionals whose experience has been limited to preparing compliance filings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and monitor periodic compliance certification requirements for regulated entities, including follow-up and escalation of overdue or missing submissions.

  • Conduct remote, risk-based examinations of regulated financial entities.

  • Review and test KYC, Customer Due Diligence (CDD), transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, and suspicious activity reporting controls.

  • Assess AML/CFT controls and, where applicable, the use and quality of blockchain analytics by money transmitters and digital asset businesses.

  • Perform risk assessments, sampling, control testing, and evidence review.

  • Prepare complete examination workpapers documenting:

    • Scope and methodology

    • Sampling approach

    • Testing performed

    • Evidence obtained

    • Findings and conclusions

    • Management responses

  • Document findings according to severity, establish required corrective actions and deadlines, and monitor remediation through closure.

  • Maintain accurate audit, certification, finding, and examination records.

  • Record time dedicated to each regulated entity.

  • Identify situations where existing regulatory requirements cannot be effectively tested or where actual practices differ from established requirements and escalate them appropriately.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience in one or more of the following:

    • Financial-sector examination

    • Internal or external audit

    • Regulatory compliance

    • AML/CFT compliance

  • Demonstrated experience personally conducting audit or examination fieldwork, including:

    • Risk assessment

    • Sampling

    • Control testing

    • Workpaper preparation

    • Written audit findings

  • Experience within a regulated financial environment, such as banking, insurance, fintech, financial services, or financial regulatory/supervisory institutions.

  • Working knowledge of Honduran AML/CFT requirements.

  • Knowledge of the FATF Forty Recommendations.

  • Familiarity with the GAFILAT regulatory/evaluation environment.

  • Professional proficiency in both English and Spanish, written and spoken.

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to work independently with limited supervision.

  • Ability to operate effectively in an environment where processes and examination procedures are still being developed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with CNBS, UFI, a Honduran bank or insurer, a financial-services audit practice, or a regulated fintech.

  • Experience examining:

    • Money services businesses / money transmitters

    • Digital asset or cryptocurrency businesses

    • Insurance companies

  • Experience with blockchain transaction monitoring or blockchain analytics.

  • Professional certifications such as CAMS, ICA, CPA, CIA, Honduran Contador Público, or another relevant audit/compliance certification.

Scope of the Role

This position is focused on applying and testing existing regulatory standards.

It is not responsible for designing the long-term supervisory framework, developing regulatory policy, benchmarking regulations, building a team, or managing staff.

The primary objective is straightforward: examine, test, document, identify findings, and verify remediation.
